About this spot

The entrance to the moated settlement zone of Yoshinogari Historical Park. This spot is believed to have been the eastern main gate of the Yoshinogari settlement; a large gate has been reconstructed inside the earthen bridge that fills in the outer moat, and the sakamogi (angled spiked barricades) and randomly-set stakes with sharpened tips have also been brought back to their appearance from that time. A bird-shaped ornament, said to represent a belief in the grain spirit, sits atop the gate's eaves. After touring the ruins and the hands-on programs, resting here while watching preparations for the Fureai Festival get underway toward evening is a pleasure unique to the day.

Tips

Within walking distance of the Asobi no Hara Zone. Some areas have little shade, so bringing a sheet to sit on and a hat will help you stay comfortable.

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The time before evening, when the sunlight softens, is comfortable to spend here
