About this spot

On the day of the fireworks display, viewers gradually begin to gather around Abashiri Port (網走港) from the evening onward. Since the fireworks are launched from around the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Ryuhyo Kaido Abashiri (道の駅流氷街道網走) and the right bank of the Abashiri River, securing a spot in the viewing area (the parking lot on the east side of the roadside station or the right bank of the Abashiri River) lets you enjoy the fireworks in comfort. As the sun sets and the horizon of the Sea of Okhotsk turns a deep amber, gather around the dinner you've picked up and wait for the show to begin. The sea breeze feels pleasant, offering a cool comfort even in midsummer.

Tips

The viewing areas open at 11am for the parking lot on the east side of the roadside station, and at 3pm for the right bank of the Abashiri River. It can get chilly along the Sea of Okhotsk at night, so don't forget something to wear over your clothes. It's also reassuring to check the location of restrooms while it's still light out. Please be sure to take all your trash home with you.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 45 minutes. Around sunset is when the sea view looks its most beautiful
