About this spot

This park is centered around Gyoran Falls (暁嵐の滝), selected as one of the 100 Scenic Spots of Oita (大分百景). It's rare nationwide for a waterfall with a drop of about 15 meters to be located just about 500 meters from the sea, and in summer, the stream below the falls is opened as a river pool, becoming a spot for children to play in the water. The park also has a statue related to the kappa legend, and you can stroll through its calm, Japanese garden-like atmosphere. Climbing the walking trail leads to a viewpoint with views of the coastline. Located in the Asaoi area, home to the Kamiura Sea Festival venue, it's a perfect place to spend time before the fireworks.

Tips

For summer water play, watch the water level and footing in the river, and keep an eye on children at all times. A towel and a change of clothes are reassuring to bring.
