This scenic drive route runs along the Sea of Japan at the foot of Mt. Kakuda. Along the coastline you will find scattered unusually shaped rocks and inlets, and the car windows offer ever-changing views of the Sea of Japan. There are parking spaces with good views here and there, making it a good spot to stop for photos or a rest. The contrast between the lush green of Mt. Kakuda and the blue sea creates scenery that feels distinctly like Niigata summer.
Tips
The road has many curves, so drive with plenty of time to spare. Scenic viewpoints can get crowded in summer. It can be windy along the coast, so watch your belongings when getting out of the car.
