About this spot

Known as Japan's deepest lake, Lake Tazawa is famed for its highly transparent, mysterious blue color, sometimes called 《Tatsuko's Basin》. Taking a sightseeing boat lets you take in sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and lakeshore scenery from the water, and a leisurely walk along the lakeshore path is also recommended. Enjoy the lake fully during the day, before the fireworks go up over it tonight.

Tips

You can drive there from Gozanoishi Shrine. It's reassuring to check the sightseeing boat's fare and operating hours in advance. There's little shade along the lakeshore, so stay hydrated regularly.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. The afternoon light makes the gradation of the lake surface look beautiful.
