In the evening, the shore of Lake Tazawa is a beautiful time when the sun sinks behind the mountains and the lake's color changes moment by moment. Once you've picked up dinner, spread out a picnic sheet and relax while waiting for the show to start. Being at a high elevation, Lake Tazawa is cool from evening onward even in midsummer, offering a comfort that's a bit different from fireworks festivals in the city.

Tips

The area around the lakeshore gets crowded on the day of the fireworks festival, so claiming a spot early is recommended. It's reassuring to pick up food and drinks in advance. Having something to layer on at night makes for a more comfortable evening.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 15 minutes. Be sure to enjoy the changing colors of the lake surface at dusk.
