About this spot

This is an area with scenery unique to Atagawa, where white steam rises here and there throughout the seaside hot spring town. Free foot baths are scattered around, so you can stop by during your stroll to soak in the hot spring atmosphere. Walking narrow alleys and slopes while gazing at the rows of long-established hot spring inns is also part of the fun. Because this compact hot spring town is nestled between the sea and mountains, families can enjoy a relaxed walk around it.

Tips

About a 20-minute walk from Atagawa Banana Crocodile Garden (熱川バナナワニ園). The foot baths are basically free, but bringing a towel is recommended. The summer sun is strong during the day, so take frequent breaks and stay hydrated.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon hours, when steam tends to rise most, are recommended
