About this spot

A Western-style building designated as a National Important Cultural Property, built in the Meiji era as an officers' meeting hall for the former Imperial Army's 11th Division. The building's interior, known for its whitewashed exterior and veranda, retains traces of its days as a social gathering place, conveying the history of Zentsuji as it once flourished as a military town. Although Zentsuji is strongly associated with its temple town image, this surviving Western-style architecture is one of its other charms. Closely connected to the JGSDF camp where tonight's fireworks will be launched, it is a perfect spot for a historical stroll.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from Sotohonzan Zentsuji (総本山善通寺). Admission is around 200 yen for adults. The building is preserved as it was at the time, so be careful not to touch the exhibits during your visit.

About 45 minutes. A relaxed afternoon time slot is recommended for your visit.
