About this spot

This historic townscape remains in the center of Sakawa Town, which has thrived as a sake-producing area since the Edo period, lined with whitewashed storehouses and sake brewery buildings. Long-established breweries still make sake here today, and the atmospheric mood created by the old buildings has earned the area the nickname Little Kyoto of Tosa (土佐の小京都). Museums and souvenir shops are also scattered throughout the townscape, letting families enjoy a leisurely walk and take in the charm unique to Sakawa Town. It's a perfect spot for a stroll along streets where the whitewashed walls stand out beautifully in the summer sun.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from JR Sakawa Station (佐川駅). Strolling here is free. The summer sun is strong, so a hat or parasol is reassuring. Makino Park is a few minutes' walk away.

About 1 hour. The afternoon light, when it beautifully illuminates the white walls, is recommended
