This is the hot spring town of Tokachigawa Onsen, known for its mall-type hot spring, a rare peat-derived spring water. There's a free footbath you can casually stop by even without staying overnight, offering a relaxing break in the middle of your stroll. The riverside promenade is lush with greenery, just the right distance for a family to walk at an easy pace. Rest your body a little before the fireworks and spend a leisurely, quintessentially Hokkaido kind of time.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Tokachigaoka Park. Bringing your own towel is handy for the footbath. There are also shops and cafes nearby, good for a break along the way.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 30 minutes. The time just before evening, as it starts to cool down, is the most pleasant for the footbath
