White Lighthouse and Panoramic Views of the Soya Strait

A promontory jutting north from central Wakkanai, offering one of Hokkaido's most stunning vistas over the Soya Strait. The iconic white lighthouse is a signature landmark, and on clear days you may glimpse Mt. Rishiri and Rebun Island. An aquarium nearby houses seals and other marine creatures native to northern seas. Stroll along the coastline to fully appreciate the grandeur of Japan's northernmost ocean.

2026年8月2日(日)開催、稚内市の北防波堤ドーム周辺を会場に行われる、稚内みなと南極まつりのフィナーレを飾る花火大会です。約2,500発の花火が20時30分から21時15分までの45分間、宗谷海峡に面した夜空に次々と打ち上がります。独特の弧を描く北防波堤ドームの建造物と花火が重なる眺めは、この会場ならではの見どころです。日本最北の港町で見上げる夏の夜空は、他の地域とはひと味違う涼やかな空気の中でのフィナーレになります。
Tips
荒天時は2026年8月3日(月)に延期される予定なので、当日の開催可否は稚内市の公式発表で確認しましょう。終了後は駅や駐車場周辺が混み合うため、時間に余裕を持って移動を。夜は冷え込むことがあるので上着があると安心です。

About 10 minutes by car from Wakkanai Fukkō Market. Winds along the coast are often strong—bring a jacket. Free parking is available.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. The view of distant islands is clearest when the sun is higher.
