A Tenmangu shrine in the Gakumonji district of Hashimoto City that enshrines Sugawara Michizane, revered as the deity of learning. The place name "Gakumonji" (学文路) and the Nankai Koya Line station "Gakumonji Station" (学文路駅) are known as auspicious symbols among exam-takers, and many families visit this shrine to pray for exam success. Within the shrine grounds, there is a "touching ox" (なで牛) believed to bring good fortune when touched, perfect for a child to join hands with. The stone steps of the approach path, surrounded by trees, are pleasant to walk on during the cool morning hours and serve as a nice warm-up before heading to the pool.
Tips
Parking spaces are limited, so during busy periods it's wise to park a bit further away and enjoy a leisurely walk. Some areas within the shrine grounds are unpaved, so it's recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.
Best time to visit
Approximately 30 to 40 minutes required. The cool morning hours are best for visiting the shrine.
