Tour the Edo-period magistrate's office building and experience Hida's history
About this spot
A building that served as the magistrate's office and regional administrator's office established by the Edo shogunate to govern Hida Province. It is the only such magistrate's office building that still exists in its original form throughout Japan. The buildings from that era, including the administrative office and storehouses, remain largely intact, and as you walk through tatami-mat rooms, you can directly experience how Edo-period administration functioned. The tour route is well-organized inside, so families can slowly explore at their own pace. Starting a historical walk of Takayama from this location is the classic route.

飛騨山脈を一望できる高台に整備された展望公園で開催される、高山市民に親しまれてきた夏の花火大会です。2026年8月1日(土)19時30分から20時20分まで、標高の高い会場ならではの開けた視界いっぱいに花火が打ち上がります。眼下に広がる高山の街明かりと、遠くに連なる山々のシルエットを背景に楽しむ花火は、山あいの城下町ならではのスケール感が魅力です。1日かけて歩いた高山の歴史散歩を締めくくるにふさわしい、特別なフィナーレです。
Tips
本町通りから車で15〜20分ほど、坂道を上るため公共交通機関やシャトルバスの有無を事前に確認しておくと安心です。標高が高く夜は涼しくなるので、羽織ものを忘れずに。荒天時は中止や延期の場合があるため、開催可否は高山市の公式発表で確認してください。
Tips
About 10 minutes walk from Takayama Station. Since there are many tatami-mat rooms, clothing that makes it easy to remove and put on shoes is recommended. The plaza in front occasionally hosts morning markets, so the surrounding area remains lively even in the afternoon.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Since the building is spacious, it's recommended to take your time in the early afternoon.
