About this spot

This museum opens to the public the former residence of the Kusakabe family, wealthy Hida merchants, built in the Meiji era. The thick beams and open, soaring interior space—showcasing the skill of Hida's master carpenters—are truly impressive, offering a close-up look at the merchant's lifestyle and Hida's architectural culture. Located a short walk from the old town, it's a spot where you can appreciate a different, more solid style of wooden architecture from the whitewashed merchant houses nearby.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from the old town. There are steps inside the building, so families with small children should watch their footing. In summer, the inside of the wooden building stays relatively cool, making it a good place to rest.
