An ancient temple established by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. Though located in the heart of Takayama, the temple grounds have a serene atmosphere. The great Ginkgo tree standing in the temple grounds is estimated to be over 1,200 years old, and its majestic form is impressive. Along with the three-story pagoda, it conveys the weight of Hida's history. It's the perfect place to catch your breath in the quiet temple grounds as you conclude your tour.

Tips
本町通りから車で15〜20分ほど、坂道を上るため公共交通機関やシャトルバスの有無を事前に確認しておくと安心です。標高が高く夜は涼しくなるので、羽織ものを忘れずに。荒天時は中止や延期の場合があるため、開催可否は高山市の公式発表で確認してください。
Tips
About 10 minutes walk from Kusakabe Mingei-kan. The temple grounds are freely accessible for exploration, but please walk slowly and respect the quiet atmosphere. Honmachi Street is just a few minutes walk away.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. As evening approaches, the sunlight softens, making the temple grounds easier to walk through.
