About this spot

This shrine has long been revered as the sosha (general shrine) of Oki Province, and its grounds are home to a giant cedar called Yaosugi (八百杉), believed to be over 1,000 years old. The neighboring Oki Residence (億岐家住宅) is an old house passed down through the Oki family, descendants of the Oki Kuni no Miyatsuko (hereditary governors of Oki), and it preserves valuable old documents and treasures. It's a spot unique to Okinoshima Town where you can feel the island's long history firsthand.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Saigo Port. It's good manners to visit the shrine grounds quietly. There's plenty of shade in summer, so you can tour it while escaping the heat.
