About this spot

This park is set on a cape jutting out at the mouth of Saigo Bay, with a close view of Saigo Port and, behind it, a mountain range running from Mt. Daimanji, the highest peak in the Oki Islands, to Mt. Katsurao. It's also a geosite of the Oki UNESCO Global Geopark, including the cape's basalt explosion crater and Saigo Cape Lighthouse (西郷岬灯台), and from the observation deck you can take in the sea, the port town, and the island's terrain at a glance. Taking in a daytime view of Saigo Port, where fireworks will launch tonight, from the cape is a pleasure unique to this course.

Tips

Drive from Tamawakasu-mikoto Shrine toward the tip of the cape. Parking, restrooms, a gazebo, and benches are all available, making it good for a rest as well. You'll walk a bit along a promenade to reach the observation deck, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
