Nagaoka War-Damaged Materials Museum

Flow of the course

About this spot

A museum preserving memories of the August 1st, 1945 air raid on Nagaoka for future generations. Through photographs and documents from that time, visitors can learn about the damage the city of Nagaoka suffered and the history of its reconstruction. Interestingly, the 'White Chrysanthemum' fireworks you will visit later began as a memorial to those who perished in this air raid. By stopping by before watching the fireworks, you can feel their deeper meaning. It becomes a quiet learning experience to contemplate peace together with your children.

Tips

About 10 minutes on foot from JR Nagaoka Station. The museum is sized for a leisurely visit. Since the exhibits include war-related content, please provide age-appropriate explanations for your children.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour required. Morning through early afternoon is recommended for a calm viewing experience.
