Natural Beach on an Island Accessible by Bridge at Sunset

About this spot

Seko Island, floating off the Motobu Peninsula, is a remote island easily accessible by car via the Seko Bridge. Seko Beach stretches along the island's western shore—a natural white sand beach with exceptional clarity for the waters around Okinawa's main island. So transparent are the shallows that fish are visible, with Minna Island and Ie Island floating beyond. As evening falls, the west-facing beach offers a stunning sunset where the sea and sky transform from crimson to lavender hues—a breathtaking sight. This is the perfect stage to conclude a day that began with whale sharks, accompanied by the quiet rhythm of the waves.

Tips

The beach parking lot requires a fee. The shore contains fragments of coral, making sandals or water shoes helpful for walking. Once the sun sets, footing becomes suddenly dark—return to your vehicle while light remains. Plan an early departure for the drive home.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Late afternoon as the sun begins to descend is the best time, with the sea and sky's colors shifting moment by moment.
