About this spot

This park was developed around a historic site where one of Japan's largest early Jomon-period settlement remains were discovered. Reconstructed pit-dwelling houses line the plaza, and there are also exhibits and hands-on programs where you can experience Jomon-period life. From the spacious grounds you can also see the mountains of Kirishima, making it a spot where families can enjoy history learning and a nature stroll at the same time. It's a valuable learning experience that lets you truly feel that ancient people once lived on this land.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Kokubu IC. You'll be walking outdoors for a long time, so don't forget a hat and to stay hydrated in summer. Hands-on programs may require advance reservation.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. From the morning through midday is a relatively comfortable time.
