This shrine, long worshipped locally, sits on a hill behind the Yunotsu Onsen hot spring town. Climb the steep stone steps to the top, and you'll find an excellent viewpoint overlooking Yunotsu Port and the inlet below. Beloved as a deity protecting fishing and safe voyages, the view from the shrine grounds is said to be one of the best in Yunotsu. Taking in the port where fireworks will be launched tonight from this hilltop during the day will make the evening viewing even more enjoyable.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from the Yunotsu Onsen hot spring town, with a continuous flight of stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. You'll work up a sweat climbing in summer, so bring something to drink. There's little shade on the shrine grounds, so it's recommended to enjoy the view and then move on rather than lingering.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes needed. The afternoon light makes the harbor's surface sparkle beautifully.
