Yunotsu is also known as a pottery village with a history dating back to the Edo period, and at this facility you can learn about that history and the techniques involved. A large climbing kiln once used here is preserved inside, and getting an up-close look at the kiln's interior and structure is a highlight. Photos and materials clearly introduce the pottery culture that developed alongside the prosperity of the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine. It's also a cool, quiet spot perfect for taking a breather on a hot summer afternoon.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Ryugozen Shrine. The building is air-conditioned, making it ideal for a break during the hot part of a summer day. Watch for steps along the climbing kiln viewing passage if you have small children. You'll walk to the harbor area next.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour needed. It's a perfect resting spot during the strong afternoon sun.
