About this spot

A source park in Tanohara, Yoshika-cho, laid out around Orochigaike Pond, the headwaters of the clear Takatsu River. It's said to be one of only two places in Japan where the source of a Class A river can be clearly identified, and beside the pond stands a single cedar tree, said to be a thousand years old, as the park's symbol. The area around the pond, surrounded by trees, is quiet, and you can take a slow walk in the cool mountain air. Visit the birthplace of the Takatsu River, where tonight's fireworks will rise, during the day.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Michi-no-Eki Silk Way Nichihara. Some footing near the water can be slippery, so wear comfortable walking shoes and be careful when approaching the riverside. The sun is strong in summer, so don't forget a hat or sunscreen.
