Held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Minato Fireworks Festival brings summer in Yawatahama City, one of Shikoku's leading fishing port towns, to a close. About 3,500 fireworks shells launch one after another over the port, best enjoyed amid the lively atmosphere unique to a harbor lined with fishing boats. After experiencing Yawatahama's charms at the roadside station and shopping street during the day, this is a special moment to end the day with fireworks coloring the night sky. The festival goes ahead rain or shine, but will be postponed to the following day, Sunday, August 16, in case of severe weather. The area around the port becomes very crowded after the festival ends, so it is recommended to enjoy the afterglow for a while before moving.
