Held along the banks of the Yahagi River, the Nishio-Yonezu River Festival is a summer tradition of Yonezu-cho, Nishio City. About 3,000 fireworks shells launch into the sky above the river, and thanks to the river's wide breadth, you can enjoy large fireworks bursting dramatically right in front of you. A festival long loved by locals, its atmosphere builds bit by bit as the sun sets, alongside the liveliness of the food stalls. A shift from historic townscape strolling by day to fireworks by the riverside at night makes for a fitting close to the day.

Tips

The area around the venue gets very crowded on the day, so arriving early to secure a spot is recommended. In case of severe weather, the event is scheduled to be postponed to August 29 (or September 12 if the weather is still bad), so check the organizer's official announcement on the day. The surrounding roads get crowded afterward, so allow plenty of time.
