Castle ruins atop Mount Gagyu, overlooking downtown Murakami, where the stone walls from the era still remain on the mountainside. Although no buildings remain, the mountain path itself, winding past the stone walls as you climb, is a highlight, and from the summit you can see all the way over Murakami's castle town toward the Sea of Japan. A spot perfect for a small family adventure, letting you move your body while feeling the weight of history.
Tips
A short walk or drive from Kuroishi-dori. It takes about 20 minutes on a proper mountain path to reach the summit, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Stay hydrated regularly in summer.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes needed. Climbing in the early afternoon tends to offer a clearer view
