Bunmei Levee (文命堤)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This historic levee was built during the Edo period to prevent the Sakawa River from flooding, and it remains a beloved embankment path that continues to support local life today. Walking along the top of the levee, you can enjoy the breeze off the river and the wide-open rural scenery, perfect for a summer stroll. There are also information boards explaining historic flood-control efforts, letting you feel the deep connection between the river and the people here. Viewing the Sakawa River in daylight, where fireworks will rise tonight, makes the evening viewing all the more exciting.

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from Kaisei Town Ajisai no Sato. Part of the embankment path is unpaved, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There's little shade, so don't forget to stay hydrated in summer. It's about a 15-minute drive to the next stop, Michi-no-Eki Ashigara.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes needed. The time when the afternoon sunlight softens a little is easier to walk in
