About this spot

This seawall runs about 1.5 km along Suruga Bay (駿河湾), from the eastern edge of the Oi River (大井川) mouth to the area around Yoshida Fishing Port, standing 11.8 meters above sea level. While it's a facility that protects the town from tsunamis, in normal times it's used as a coastal promenade, also serving to improve circulation within the area. From atop the levee, you can take in views of both the sea and town at once, and it has a calm atmosphere before evening, perfect for a leisurely stroll while feeling the sea breeze. Its long, straight view feels open and spacious, making it great for family photos too.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Shirasu-ya Maruzo Suisan (しらす屋 丸三水産). There's little shelter from the sun atop the levee, so don't forget a hat and sunscreen.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. It gets cooler and easier to walk as evening approaches.
