About this spot

About a 10-minute drive from downtown Tarumizu, this gorge spreads out at the foot of the Takakuma mountain range and is designated as a prefectural natural park and part of the Osumi Natural Recreation Forest. Clear water cascades down amid a landscape lined with unusual granite boulders and rock formations, and you can take a leisurely walk along the promenade beside the gorge. At the Mori-no-Eki Tarumizu (森の駅たるみず) base facility, you can also enjoy activities such as canyoning. As the temperature settles down toward evening, this is a comfortable time for a family stroll.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from the Kamoike-Tarumizu Ferry Terminal. Viewpoints are limited, so please follow any posted signs. There is little shade on sunny days, so don't forget a hat and something to drink.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. Toward evening, the temperature settles and the gorge's green shade feels pleasant.
