Stroll leisurely along the pebble-lined waterway path while admiring the flowing water and swimming carp
About this spot
A charming waterside path lined with river stones from the Yoshida River (吉田川) and Nagara River (長良川). Beneath a canopy of willows, crystal-clear water flows while colorful carp glide serenely—a picturesque scene that epitomizes the water town of Gujo Hachiman (郡上八幡). Scattered around the waterway are traditional machiya that have been converted into local shops, art museums, and cafés, making it delightful to wander and explore. The texture of the pebble pathway underfoot and the gentle sound of flowing water are soothing; this is an ideal spot for leisurely strolls with children.
Tips
The pebble surface can be bumpy for strollers; slow progress or babywearing is recommended. Keep children in sight so they don't lean too far over the waterway to see the carp. Nearby Shincho (新町) and Honcho (本町) streets have food stalls and souvenir shops worth exploring—combining these with a walk through the castle town makes the experience even more enjoyable.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Afternoon light filtered through the willows creates beautiful photo opportunities.
