Kyoto's oldest geisha district, with charming stone-paved streets immediately adjacent to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Long-established sweet shops and restaurants line the avenue, allowing you to enjoy street food while experiencing the townscape atmosphere unique to Kyoto. As evening approaches, soft lights begin to illuminate the traditional wooden lattice-fronted buildings, deepening the ambiance characteristic of a geisha district. Before heading to the illuminated grounds of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, take time to savor Kyoto's twilight slowly.

Tips

It is immediately accessible from the east gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Many shops close in the evening, so it is recommended to enjoy street food early.

Approximately 40 minutes. The soft light of the evening beautifully and atmospherically illuminates the townscape.
