This is the former residence of the Mikami family, wealthy Miyazu merchants who engaged in sake brewing and shipping trade since the Edo period. Designated as a Kyoto Prefecture cultural property, the residence features high-quality materials and gardens that reveal the former prosperity of this merchant house. This valuable building tells the story of Miyazu's history as a port town that flourished through trade, offering visitors a glimpse into a different aspect of the town's lifestyle compared to the scenic views of Amanohashidate or Chionji Temple.

Tips

Within walking distance from both Amanohashidate and Miyazu stations. Admission requires a fee. The interior features many tatami-mat rooms, so wearing easily removable shoes makes for smooth transitions.

Best time to visit

Takes approximately 40 minutes. Visiting in the calm evening hours leading up to the festival is recommended.
