UNESCO World Heritage Tenryu-ji with Sogenji Pond Garden framing Arashiyama
About this spot
The principal temple of the Rinzai Tenryu-ji school and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Sogenji Pond Garden, said to have been designed by the renowned landscape artist Musô Soseki, is famous for its magnificent landscape incorporating Arashiyama and Kameyama mountains as backdrop, offering different views with each season. Sitting on the veranda to slowly appreciate the garden's scenery is especially memorable. Located conveniently near the Bamboo Grove Path's north entrance, making it easy to visit both.

全国の酒造家から篤い信仰を集める、京都でも屈指の古社・松尾大社で開かれる祭りです。2026年は9月5日(土)・6日(日)の2日間にわたって八朔祭が行われ、初日の9月5日19時からは境内で盆踊り大会が催されます。旧暦8月1日にあたる「八朔」の頃に行われることからその名がついたとされ、夏の終わりを告げる祭りとして地域に親しまれています。嵐山エリアの絶景巡りを終えた1日の締めくくりに、酒造の神様が見守る境内で踊りの輪に加わりましょう。
Tips
阪急松尾大社駅から徒歩約3分とアクセス良好です。夜間の境内は足元が暗い場所もあるため注意しましょう。荒天時の開催可否は事前に確認を。
Tips
Located just north of the Bamboo Grove Path's entrance. Admission fee required (garden and main hall may have different fees). The grounds offer plenty of shade, making summer visits relatively comfortable.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Late afternoon's soft light beautifully illuminates the garden's greenery.
