About this spot

This museum preserves and exhibits a merchant house from Imari Port, which thrived as a shipping port for Imari ware from the Edo period onward. The original earthen floor, account desk, and warehouse of the merchant house remain intact, conveying the history of trade unique to a port town through which Imari ware was distributed nationwide. The museum displays antique Imari ware and trading tools, allowing you to understand how the pottery craftsmanship you saw at the kilns in Okawachi-yama was delivered across Japan. It's a museum of appropriate size to visit while leisurely walking through Imari's historic town center.
