About this spot
Juhachiya (十八夜), held at Ryusenji Temple (龍泉寺) in Arita Town, is a traditional summer event long passed down by the local community. In 2026 it runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. As the daytime bustle settles down for the night, lights quietly come on at this mountainside temple. If Tozan Shrine and the tonbai-bei streetscape visited during the day represent the lively side of this pottery town, the evening at Ryusenji Temple lets you experience Arita's other face, its stillness. There is none of the flashiness of a city fireworks display, but take the time to savor, together with your family, an evening alive with the prayers and traditions of the local community.
