The Kifune Shrine Summer Grand Festival (貴布禰神社夏季大祭, also known as the Amagasaki Danjiri Matsuri) is centered on Kifune Shrine in Amagasaki City. In 2026 it is held over two days, August 1 (Saturday) and 2 (Sunday), with miyairi, the ceremonial entrance, taking place from 8:00 p.m. on the first day, August 1. Danjiri floats, pulled with great energy to the sound of taiko drums and gongs, gather one after another around the shrine, while about 100 food stalls line the shrine grounds and the adjacent park, filling the entire venue with excitement. The history of the castle town you learned about at Amagasaki Castle and the Amagasaki Archives during the day should make the power of the evening's danjiri all the more meaningful.

Tips

On the day of the festival, the area around the shrine becomes extremely crowded, and roads may be closed to vehicles. Using public transportation is recommended. Having coins on hand is convenient for buying from the food stalls. Young children may be startled by the loudness of the taiko drums and gongs, so keep an eye on them and adjust your distance as needed.
