About this spot

This is the Awaji Island Festival, the major summer event representing Awaji Island, held across the city center of Sumoto. In 2026 it's held over two days, July 31 (Fri.) and August 1 (Sat.), and this course centers on the first day, July 31. The first day runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with performances by local groups and stage events livening up the whole city center. The history and natural richness of this port town, which you felt earlier that day at the Sumoto Castle Ruins, the shopping street, and Ohama Beach, should leave an even deeper impression alongside the excitement of the evening festival.

On the day of the festival, the city center becomes very crowded and roads may be closed to vehicles. Public transportation is the safer choice.
