About this spot

This workshop and shop is the only one in Toyooka still making willow trunks using 'kiryu wickerwork', a traditional craft passed down in Toyooka since ancient times. The baskets and bags carefully woven from willow branches represent a local industry that laid the foundation for Toyooka's development as a 'town of bags'. At the workshop, you can watch the artisans' handiwork and see the finished products, deepening your understanding of Toyooka's industrial culture, a side quite different from the history of Izushi's castle town.

Tips

You can drive here from Izushi's castle town. There may be an admission fee. The building isn't very large, so even a short visit is enough to see everything.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Recommended as a stop after strolling the castle town.
