The Omakami Daijingu Gogo Festival, held throughout Esashi, is a traditional event boasting one of Hokkaido's longest histories, continuing since the Edo period. In 2026, the festival runs for 3 days from August 9-11 (Sunday-Tuesday), with this course featuring the opening day on August 9. Ornate floats decorated with gold leaf and carvings process through town accompanied by festival music, transforming the entire port town that once prospered from herring fishing into a festival celebration. Viewing the evening procession with knowledge gained from your daytime visits to Omakami Daijingu, Inishie Kaido, and the Esashi Dashi Museum will prove far more rewarding.

During the festival period, the town is very crowded and roads may be closed to traffic. Using public transportation or temporary parking is recommended. Bring a light wrap, as sea breezes at night can feel cool. Check official information for cancellation due to severe weather.
