About this spot

This is one of the largest keyhole-shaped burial mounds in the Yodogawa River basin, widely believed to be the true tomb of Emperor Keitai (継体天皇), a great king of the early 6th century. Visitors can actually walk on the mound, and the area reconstructing the haniwa ritual site features rows of replica haniwa shaped like warriors and animals. Maintained as a history park, it's a popular spot for families, letting kids experience the authority of an ancient king up close.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car or bus from JR Takatsuki Station. There's little shade, so bring a hat and drinks in summer. You can also visit the exhibition facility at the adjoining Imashiro Daio no Mori (いましろ大王の杜).

About 45 minutes needed. A visit in the cool of the morning is recommended
