About this spot

A nationally designated important cultural property preserving the original building of the private academy founded by Ogata Koan, a scholar of Dutch studies in the late Edo period. Known for producing many talented individuals, including Fukuzawa Yukichi, the interior of the traditional townhouse has preserved rooms where students lived and the library. As a historical structure quietly remaining in the midst of a business district, it's a valuable place that conveys Osaka's academic and cultural heritage to the present day.

Tips

Within walking distance from Nakanoshima Park toward Kitamido. An admission fee is required. Since it's a wooden building, please view quietly.

Best time to visit

Takes about 30 minutes. Viewing in the calm afternoon hours is recommended.
