Experience the grandeur of Heijo Palace at the reconstructed Great Audience Hall
About this spot
Established as the central facility of Heijo Palace when the capital was moved in 710, this palace hosted state ceremonies such as imperial coronations and audiences with foreign envoys. The reconstructed Great Audience Hall, based on excavation findings, is a magnificent building with red pillars and white walls that shine against the blue sky, and inside there is a reconstructed display of the imperial throne "Takamikura." Standing within the vast palace ruins, you can physically feel the enormous scale of the Nara-period capital.
