Festival Music Echoing on the Kitakami River and Fireworks Lighting the Night Sky

A summer festival spanning over 100 years that celebrates Ishinomaki's history of development with river transportation on the Kitakami River. In 2026, the festival runs for three days from July 31 to August 2, with the area along the river downstream from the Kaisei Bridge as the main venue. During the day, city parades and taiko drum performances liven up the streets, and as darkness falls, a fireworks display lighting up the river surface of the Kitakami River reaches its climax. This is a community-wide summer festival that carries the sentiments of Ishinomaki's people, who have been supported by the blessings of the Kitakami River and the sea.

For fireworks viewing, riverside and embankment spots are popular for securing places, so arriving early is recommended. The venue area will be under major traffic restrictions, so arriving on foot or via public transportation is advisable. At night, temperatures can drop along the riverside, so a light cardigan is recommended.

Best time to visit

Starting from 5 PM with pre-festival excitement, the nighttime fireworks display is the main highlight.
