About this spot
This summer festival, over 100 years old, gives thanks for the history of Ishinomaki, a city that developed alongside water transport on the Kitakami River. In 2026 it runs for three days, from July 31 to August 2; land events take place in central Ishinomaki, while the fireworks display is held from 19:00 on Saturday, August 1, at a special venue downstream of Kaihoku Bridge. Daytime is lively with a downtown parade and taiko drum performances, and after dark, fireworks light up the surface of the Kitakami River. It's a community-wide summer festival carrying the feelings of the people of Ishinomaki, who have long been sustained by the blessings of the Kitakami River and the sea.
