Overlook the castle town from the wooden-restored keep

About this spot

A castle where the Katakura family, chief retainers of the Date clan, served as lords. The keep restored in wood is a rare valuable architectural structure nationwide. The interior of the keep has an authentic feel with the scent of wood lingering, and from the top floor you can overlook Shiraishi's castle town. Stone walls and moat remains surrounding the castle allow you to feel the lingering traces of the castle town continuing from the Edo period. The display of armor inside the keep is also worth seeing.

白石駅前通りを会場に毎年開かれる、地域を挙げての夏まつりです。通りには多くの屋台が軒を連ね、金魚すくいやわたあめといった縁日ならではの出店が祭りの雰囲気を盛り上げます。片倉家の城下町として栄えた白石らしく、駅前通りには老舗の店も並び、昼間に歩いた城下町の歴史と夜の賑やかな祭りの対比が楽しめます。地元の子どもから大人まで幅広い世代が集まる、白石の夏を象徴する催しです。

Tips

駅前通りは祭り期間中歩行者天国になることが多く、ベビーカーでも歩きやすい環境です。屋台は早い時間から混み合うことがあるため、小腹が空いたら早めに立ち寄りましょう。夜は駅周辺の交通規制に注意してください。

Tips

Driving from Zao Fox Village is convenient. The keep has steep stairs, so if visiting with small children, hold their hands while ascending and descending. Admission is required.
