See the Magnificent Hikiyama Floats Up Close

A facility where you can view up close the magnificent and ornate Hikiyama floats that actually parade through town during the Yatsuo Hikiyama Festival. These Hikiyama, adorned with intricate carvings and embroidery, convey the master craftsmanship and historical weight of Yatsuo, a town built on slopes. The museum also displays materials related to the Owara Kazenobon, allowing you to deepen your understanding of the dances you will see. It's a fitting starting point for a day where you can thoroughly experience Yatsuo's traditional culture.

300年以上の歴史を持つとされる越中八尾を代表する行事で、2026年は9月1日から3日までの3日間開催されます。石畳の坂道が続く諏訪町本通りを中心に、三味線と胡弓が奏でる哀愁漂う旋律にのせて、編笠をかぶった踊り手たちが優雅に舞いながら練り歩きます。ぼんぼりの灯りに照らされた坂の町の町並みと、しなやかな踊りが織りなす光景は、日本情緒あふれる幻想的な雰囲気に包まれます。地元の各町内が守り伝えてきた踊りと唄が、初日から夜遅くまで坂の町に響き渡ります。
Tips
期間中は大変混雑するため、よい場所で見たい場合は早めに沿道へ向かいましょう。坂道が多いのでベビーカーでの移動は歩きやすいルートを選ぶのが安心です。夜は山あいの町らしく気温が下がることもあるので、羽織ものを用意しておくと快適です。
Tips
It's within walking distance of Suwa-cho Main Street. Even with slow viewing, you can see the entire facility in about an hour. Even though it's late summer, outdoors can be humid, so cooling off in the museum's air conditioning while viewing is recommended.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour. Earlier afternoon hours are relatively less crowded, allowing for leisurely viewing.
