Birthplace of Takaoka Casting with Senbon-goshi Lattice Houses and Stone-Paved Streets
About this spot
About 400 years ago, this became the birthplace of Takaoka's casting industry when Maeda Toshinaga summoned master casters to the area. Traditional merchant houses feature fine 'senbon-goshi' (thousand-line lattice) shutters, with stone-paved streets that evoke the history and weight of Takaoka's casting culture. Workshops still dot the area, and it's enjoyable to browse shops selling cast-iron products such as wind chimes and decorative items. As evening approaches, this is an ideal place to leisurely savor the origins of Takaoka's artisan culture.

Name:
Date & time: 8/16 (Sun) Time TBA
Venue:
Tips
Tips
It's within walking distance from Yamacho-dori. It's recommended to walk the stone pavement in comfortable shoes. Some workshops offer viewing or hands-on experiences, so consider stopping by if you have time.
Best time to visit
Takes about 40 minutes. The slanting light of early evening beautifully highlights the shadows of the lattice shutters.
