This is a historic shopping street that runs through the center of Takaoka City and is easily accessible on foot from Kanaya-cho. With restaurants and cafes lining the street, it's the perfect location to refuel before heading to the Senkoku River bed to watch the lantern floating festival. As evening falls, you'll see people carrying lanterns heading toward the festival venue, and the entire town becomes enveloped in the solemn, bittersweet atmosphere of summer's end.

2026年8月16日、高岡市を流れる千保川の河川敷で行われる灯籠流し祭は、お盆に帰ってきたご先祖の霊を、灯籠の灯りとともに静かに見送る伝統行事です。日が暮れると、家族の名前や願いごとが書かれた無数の灯籠が川面へと放たれ、ゆらゆらと灯りを揺らしながら下流へと流れていきます。花火や太鼓とはまた違う、静かで厳かな雰囲気が漂う祭りで、夏の終わりをしみじみと感じさせてくれます。夜の川面いっぱいに広がる灯りの帯は、高岡の夏の締めくくりにふさわしい光景です。
Tips
河川敷は夜になると足元が暗くなるため、懐中電灯やスマートフォンのライトを持参すると安心です。虫が多い時期でもあるので、虫よけ対策をしっかりしておきましょう。灯籠を流したい場合は、会場で受付方法を確認してください。

The riverbed tends to cool down in the evening due to the river breeze, so it's wise to prepare a light jacket during dinner. Consider leaving with some time to spare to account for travel time to the venue.
