Located on the hillside of Kuwayama behind Hofu Tenmangu, this park features an observation deck with panoramic views of Hofu's townscape and the Seto Inland Sea. Well-maintained walking trails offer a perfect spot to cool off during or between shrine visits. The vermillion-painted shrine buildings seen from the overlook enhance your anticipation of the festival to come.

2026年8月3日から5日にかけて開催される御誕辰祭は、学問の神様として知られる菅原道真公の誕生日を祝う、防府天満宮の夏を代表する大祭です。日本で最初に建立された天神さまとされる防府天満宮ならではの格式ある祭事で、期間中は境内に多くの灯りがともされ、夜になっても参拝客の絶えないにぎわいを見せます。桑山を背に朱塗りの社殿が夜空に浮かび上がる光景は、防府の夏の風物詩として親しまれています。今回のコースで訪ねる初日は、祭りが始まったばかりの高揚感に満ちた夜です。
Tips
境内は夜になると多くの参拝客でにぎわい、参道の石段が混み合うことがあります。小さな子ども連れの場合は手をつないでゆっくり歩きましょう。駐車場は早めに満車になることがあるので、公共交通機関の利用も検討してください。

Accessible by foot or car from Hofu Tenmangu. The path to the observation deck includes a gentle incline, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The late afternoon sun can be bright and glaring.
