Just a short walk from Chofu Garden, Furue Alley with its earthen walls and long-roofed gateways vividly preserves the atmosphere of a samurai-inhabited castle town. Various dining establishments popular with locals are scattered throughout the area. This location is ideal for enjoying dinner in this historic neighborhood before heading to the Suhou-tei Matsuri at Imomiya Shrine. As evening falls, the sight of festival-goers increases, and the entire castle town becomes infused with the ambiance of a summer celebration.

2026年8月7日から13日までの7日間、長府の忌宮神社を舞台に開催される数方庭祭は、仲哀天皇の時代にまで由来が遡るとも伝わる、1800年以上の歴史を持つ夏の大祭です。天を突くほど高く笹竹や造花で飾られた「笹竹」を若者たちが頭上に掲げ、「切りひょうたん」の掛け声とともに境内を練り歩く姿は勇壮そのもの。夜が更けるにつれて境内は多くの見物客で埋め尽くされ、幾本もの高い笹竹が夜空に揺れる光景は、他の地域では見られない下関ならではの迫力あるまつりです。
Tips
会場周辺は夜になると多くの見物客でにぎわい、駐車場が早い時間に満車になることがあります。境内は人が密集するため、小さな子ども連れは無理に前方へ行かず、少し離れた場所から見守るのも安心です。
Tips
After evening approaches, the area around Imomiya Shrine becomes crowded, so finishing dinner by 4 PM allows for a more relaxed experience. The alley has abundant shade and is easy to walk through in the evening.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes. The soft light of dusk beautifully illuminates the earthen-wall alleyway.
