About this spot
A leisure space in town developed utilizing the 'Gotenseki' waterway, which has supplied water to Yamagata's castle town since the Edo period. With the sound of murmuring water, restaurants and souvenir shops line the waterway's edge, offering a perfect spot to cool off and rest during your stroll. Close to Bunshoken, it is a place where you can feel the blessings of water as Yamagata's castle town.

2026年の山形花笠まつりは8月5日から7日までの3日間、山形市中心市街地の直線コースを舞台に開催される、東北四大祭りのひとつです。山形の特産品である紅花をあしらった花笠を手にした踊り手たちが、「ヤッショ、マカショ」の軽快な掛け声にあわせて笠を回しながら練り歩く姿は圧巻。1万人ともいわれる踊り手による大群舞が繰り出す熱気は、沿道の観客をも巻き込みます。今回のコースで訪ねる初日は、まつりが幕を開けたばかりの高揚感を味わえる日でもあります。
Tips
会場周辺は夕方以降、車両の通行規制がかかり大変混雑します。よい場所で観たいなら早めに沿道へ向かうのがおすすめです。飲み物をこまめに補給し、こまめな休憩を心がけましょう。

Just a few minutes walk from Bunshoken. Benches are along the waterway, making it ideal for short rests or beverage breaks.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes. Late afternoon when the heat begins to ease is pleasant.
